Greenfields fire personnel participated in a school bus emergency rescue drill held at the Reading Fairgrounds. The drill was set up by the Berks County Intermediate Unit to test their emergency plan in the case of a school bus crash.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find 20 victims inside the bus suffering from various mock injuries. Firefighters and EMS personnel carefully removed each victim from the bus and placed them in the triage areas corresponding to their injury status. An aeromedical landing zone was also established and one victim was loaded into the PennStar 4 helicopter.

All fire personnel found the exercise to be a vivid reminder of the method and effort required to handle a school bus emergency.

Our thanks to BCIU, RFD Training Lt. Ron Wentzel, Mount Pleasant, Spring Township and the Reading Fire Departments for your help during this drill.
